FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions. Please reach out with any other questions that may come to mind, or for any clarification on the present FAQs.

What qualifies your lesson prices?

Our lesson fees are often lower than those of larger swim schools, while our instructors bring a high level of qualifications, experience, and professionalism. Because we operate from my family's beautiful private outdoor pool rather than a rented commercial facility, we're able to keep our operating costs lower. This allows us to offer small class sizes, personalized instruction, and competitive pricing—creating a premium swim lesson experience that delivers exceptional value for families.

How many students per class?

Class sizes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of three swimmers per lesson. Lessons may be offered as private (1:1), semi-private (2:1), or small group (3:1) instruction. Each lesson is led by one qualified instructor, and on occasion, a second instructor may be present to provide additional support and enhance the learning experience.

How do you provide quality-focused lessons?

Samantha's Learn to Swim is built on exceptional instruction, personalized learning, and outstanding customer care. We welcome swimmers of all ages and abilities, including those on the autism spectrum. Our program has grown primarily through returning families and word-of-mouth referrals. We invite you to explore our client testimonials to learn more about their experiences. All of our instructors are certified through the Lifesaving Society, hold National Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Standard First Aid certifications, and bring years of experience teaching children, adults, private lessons, small groups, and swimmers on the autism spectrum.

What target group is your preferred swim group, in terms of expertise?

Samantha, Corrado, and Kendra will be leading our swimmers throughout the 2026 summer season, each bringing their own unique strengths and expertise. Samantha, our senior instructor, has experience teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. During the off-season, she works as a behavioural therapist and has extensive experience supporting children with developmental disabilities, including autism. Corrado has a strong background teaching babies, children, and parent-and-tot classes, and is known for his leadership and ability to engage groups of swimmers. Kendra has been a competitive swimmer for over a decade and is passionate about helping swimmers refine their technique through organized, encouraging, and detail-oriented instruction.

Can I pair my ≤24  month year old with my older child, for a semi-private lesson?

Our swim lessons are thoughtfully organized to pair swimmers of similar age and ability, helping create a positive and productive learning environment. However, if you feel your children would benefit from learning together, we are happy to accommodate siblings in the same lesson whenever appropriate. Otherwise, we recommend either separate private lessons or enrollment in group lessons that best match each swimmer's age, ability, and learning needs.

What is the missed-class policy?

Each lesson package includes one complimentary lesson credit, allowing you to reschedule one missed lesson without penalty—no notice required. This includes missed lessons due to illness. Once the lesson credit has been used, the full lesson fee will apply to any additional missed lessons.

If your lesson credit remains unused by the end of the season, you'll receive 25% off one private or semi-private lesson during our final week of summer programming.

Lessons cancelled due to inclement weather are determined at the discretion of Samantha's Learn to Swim and will be rescheduled whenever possible. Make-up lessons are typically held during the final week of the summer season (August 24–28).

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) welcome!

Samantha's Learn to Swim proudly welcomes swimmers of all abilities, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. In 2023, we partnered with Growing Growth Autism Services to provide complimentary swim lessons for their clients, and in 2024, we partnered with Centre for Dreams to support their organization through community fundraising.

As the owner of Samantha's Learn to Swim, Samantha has extensive experience supporting children with developmental disabilities through her work as a behavioural therapist and years of volunteer and professional experience within the ASD community.

To help ensure a safe and positive learning environment, swimmers participating in our regular lesson program should be able to communicate their needs through speech and comfortably participate in a structured, fast-paced lesson. Families are encouraged to contact us if they are unsure whether our program is the right fit for their child.

Do you provide swimming feedback to swimmers and parents/carers?

Throughout the swim season, families receive access to their swimmer's online progress document, which is updated following each lesson. At the conclusion of the program, every swimmer receives a personalized progress report highlighting their growth, accomplishments, and recommended next steps. To celebrate their hard work and participation, each swimmer is also presented with a personalized certificate, regardless of whether they advance to the next level.

What is your standard of safety?

Safety is at the heart of everything we do and is one of the foundations of our teaching philosophy. Our small class sizes are intentionally designed to provide each swimmer with a high level of supervision, individualized instruction, and support. We believe that maintaining a maximum ratio of one instructor to three swimmers creates a safe, attentive, and effective learning environment. Samantha's Learn to Swim is also affiliated with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, and our team values the knowledge, research, and best practices they provide to help promote water safety in and around the pool.
